Winter time harvesting can be used to reduce the impact on the ground in sensitive and wet areas. But the job should not be considered complete when the last load of logs leaves the landing.
Close out work should be done once ground conditions are dry enough, and this would include being able to effectively install waterbars and stabilize soil. In the photo below right, the camp road was used by the skidders to bring whole trees to the landing. These photos depict a thoughtfully completed winter harvest!
